"Pfizer has been working with the FDA for some time to make Viagra available to American consumers in the United States and is continuing to work with them to seek approval for its generic product."
The letter, which was sent Friday to Pfizer, included the following statement:

Pfizer had said that the drug was approved for sale in Australia and has been sold in the United States for many years.
"The FDA has asked Pfizer to review the safety and effectiveness of the Viagra, as well as the potential for side effects associated with the drug," Pfizer said in a statement.
